Carolyn Salter

Dr. Salter's journey into medicine began with her training at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where she earned her degree in 1981. She then trained in Gainesville, Florida and with a solid foundation in anesthesiology and board certification achieved in 1989, Dr. Salter embarked on a fulfilling professional journey subsequently practicing and teaching at the VA hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She moved to Palestine to practice in 1991. She now specializes in chronic pain management and the responsible administration of narcotic prescriptions. As the chief Operating Officer at Sycamore Medical Clinic, Dr. Salter plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for patients grappling with persistent pain and operating a rural community internal medicine clinic with four clinicians.

Her commitment to healthcare extends beyond the clinical setting. Together with her husband, an internist and intensivist, Dr. Salter established their private practice in Palestine back in 1991, fostering a nurturing environment for comprehensive medical care. Their clinic has become an important source of healthcare for the community.

Rooted in her East Texas heritage, Dr. Salter's upbringing shaped her values and sense of community responsibility. Raised by a strong-willed Texas Public School educator and an industrious oil pipeline superintendent, she embraced the ethos of hard work, compassion, and resilience. Their legacy instilled in her the unwavering belief that no matter where life takes her, she remains an East Texan at heart.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Salter finds joy and solace in the companionship of her furry "kids" – two feline friends and a lively AussieDoodle. Family holds a special place in her heart. Her son is an accountant specializing in tax matters in Dallas.

Dr. Salter has a passion for history and historic preservation, rehabbing two historic homes. Her decade-long tenure as chairman of the Palestine Landmark Commission underscored her dedication to preserving the city's rich heritage. This commitment to community resulted in her historic election as the first woman mayor of Palestine from 2005 to 2009, a position she really enjoyed and created a desire to protect rural towns from a state takeover.

Together with her husband, Dr. Salter remains deeply involved in initiatives aimed at enriching the fabric of their community. Their dedication and tireless efforts have left an enduring mark, making Palestine a better place to live and thrive.
